Little Darlings

"Well, I guess some of us are women, and some of us are little girls."

This rad 80's movie was one of the first top-grossing films of the decade, bringing in over 34 million dollars.  Little Darlings was released on March 21, 1980, by Paramount Pictures & directed by Ronald F. Maxwell, (Parent Trap).

A coming-of-age drama, Little Darlings is sure to tug at your heartstrings; if you are or have ever been a teenage girl, that is.  But perhaps this movie is relevant to anyone who is experiencing or has experienced that awkward time in adolescence when you first discover sex in a tangible form.
Set in a proverbial summer camp for girls, Camp Little Wolf conveniently lies just across the lake from Camp Tomahawk, a camp for boys.

The Endearing Cast of Characters in Little Darlings

The main stars, Tatum O'Neal and Kristy McNichol

Ferris and Angel

The key characters are two fifteen year old girls from opposite sides of the track.  It is clear from the start of the film that these teens are not going to get-along.  Peer-pressure from catty bunk-mates launches a bet:
"Who ever loses their
virginity first... wins."
Ferris immediately sets her sights on an older male counselor.  Angel eventually targets a boy from Camp Tomahawk.

Downtown Tough Girl

Look for future big-time stars:
Matt Dillion, with his gorgeous brown eyes
and flower child, Cynthia Nixon.
Little Darlings is a radical eighties movie with a tender ending.  The music and hairstyles are reminiscent of the decade and the film has an innocent, nostalgic feel.

"This is my friend...

my best friend."
