Say Anything

"I gave her my heart,
she gave me a pen."

A classic eighties love story of boy loves girl, girl is confused; Say Anything was released on April 14th, 1989, and grossed over twenty million.  Written and directed by the infamous Cameron Crowe, this rad movie stars John Cusack as the love-sick Lloyd Dobbler and Ione Skye as Diane Court, the over-achiever.
Diane Court, valedictorian of her Seattle high school, finds herself at the top of her class, with a brand new car, a doting father and a head full of uncertainty.  For such a smart, beautiful young lady, she is desperately insecure.
Hopeless romantic, Lloyd Dobbler is a military brat, living with his older sister after the assumed abandoment of his parents.  An average guy, with average grades and a talent for kick-boxing, the best thing Lloyd has going for him are his two best friends, girls Corey and D.C.  Despite his humble circumstances, Lloyd is exceptionally lovable and his determination is inspiring.
After a chance meeting at the shopping mall food court, Lloyd is intent on taking Diane out on a date.  And it just so happens that there is a high school graduation party.  After much persistence, Diane agrees to go out with Lloyd, whom she vaugely remembers.
The torrid love affair of Lloyd Dobbler and Diane Court blooms, much to the dismay of Diane's father.
Say Anything is about two inexperienced teens dealing with first love, heartache and that ever imposing question: "What do you want to do with your life?"
Lloyd holding the boom-box above his head, playing Peter Gabriel's, 'In Your Eyes', has become an iconic image of the eighties decade.
Look for Jeremy Piven in his younger days and Joan Cusack, John's real-life sister.  Say Anything is beautiful, emotional and genuine.  And the soundtrack is pretty great too.

"What I really want to do
with my life... what I want
to do for a living... is I
want to be with your
daughter.  I'm good at it."
